DeShone Kizer changes course, stands by Tom Brady-Cam Newton quote

DeShone Kizer

So much for the context defense.

Notre Dame quarterback DeShone Kizer is now embracing a quote he gave comparing himself to Tom Brady and Cam Newton just two days after claiming his words were taken out of context.

Kizer was quoted as essentially saying that he is capable of being the greatest quarterback of all time, and while initially distancing himself from the quote, he changed course and stood by it in an interview Saturday at the Notre Dame spring game.

“When you decide to play a game like this you’re going to try to model yourself after the greatest. It was a comment I made and I’m going to stand by it,” Kizer said, via Michael David Smith of ProFootballTalk. “Why play this game if you don’t want to be the greatest?”

You can see Kizer’s original quote — and initial defense of it — right here. Needless to say, most people probably won’t quite agree with his assessment of himself.
