Dez Bryant likely to be held out through Week 7 bye

Dez Bryant has missed the last two games after he suffered a knee injury in a Week 3 win over the Chicago Bears, and it sounds like the star wide receiver may remained sidelined for at least two more weeks.

While Bryant has not been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday that the team is not going to take any chances.

“We’ll have to see how he works this week,” Jones told 105.3 The Fan, per Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News. “We won’t take any chances there. But with the way he was running at the end of last week, he had some sensitivity or he would’ve played. We’ll take a good look at it this week. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday will be big days in where he’s going to be against Green Bay.”

It seems unlikely that Bryant will suit up this week, especially since the Cowboys have a bye in Week 7. With the team being 4-1 and managing to play well without Bryant and Tony Romo, there’s no reason to take any chances.

Bryant’s knee injury has been described as a hairline fracture, though that is apparently not as serious as it sounds. In other words, he didn’t really need to go AWOL to avoid bad news about it. He should return in Week 8 if not sooner.
