Dez Bryant plays hours after learning about death of father

Dez Bryant

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant suited up for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers less than 24 hours after learning of the death of his father.

While few details were available, Bryant learned of MacArthur Hatton’s passing less than a day before the game, but elected to play anyway.

“Of course, he’s very sad and you only have one of those,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, via Todd Archer of ESPN. “But he was getting the kind of support you would think. He’s loved in that locker room, and by the coaches as well. And, so, there was a lot of sensitivity and love being expressed to him.

“I’ll say this: If he wanted to be at some place in his life, I bet it would be right in the middle of that locker room to be dealing with that.”

Bryant’s relationship with his father had been characterized as poor. No details on Hatton’s age or cause of death were available as of Sunday evening.
