Dolphins players wear shirts supporting Colin Kaepernick

Several Miami Dolphins players wore shirts featuring a message of support for Colin Kaepernick before their game against the New York Jets on Sunday.

Running back Jay Ajayi and wide receiver Kenny Stills were among a group of several players who wore shirts with “#ImWithKap” written across the front.

The players wore the shirts in the wake of Donald Trump enraging most across the NFL by urging team owners to force players to stand during the national anthem. Trump doubled down with some tweets on Sunday morning encouraging fans to boycott the NFL because of anthem protests.

Several NFL owners have released statements condemning Trump’s comments. Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan, who donated to Trump’s campaign, interlocked arms with two players during the national anthem on Sunday as a show of unity. Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said his team will remain in the locker room during the anthem before their Week 3 game.

Kaepernick remains a free agent, and there is widespread belief that he is being blackballed by NFL teams because of his political views.
