Report: Donald Trump appointing Bill Belichick to his sports and fitness council
Donald Trump made mention of his friendship with Bill Belichick on numerous occasions when he was campaigning to become president, and it would appear that relationship is as strong as ever.
According to a report from Jonathan Swan of Axios, Trump has appointed Bill Belichick and some other prominent people in sports to his “Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition.” Trump signed an executive order in February to have the council focus more on encouraging kids to participate in sports. Under the Obama administration, First Lady Michelle Obama headed up the council and placed much of the focus on making school lunches healthier.
In addition to Belichick, other members of the council will include former NFL running back Herschel Walker, retired MLB pitcher Mariano Rivera and three-time Olympic gold medalist volleyball player Misty May-Treanor.
Trump supposedly spoke with Belichick recently about the status of Tom Brady, so it makes sense that the two are working together. While Belichick is typically a very private person, he has done nothing to distance himself from Trump.
Walker, if you remember, sided with Trump last year by blasting players who protest during the national anthem. Once you’re part of The Donald’s inner circle, he usually doesn’t let you out.
