Dontari Poe reportedly has weight clause in Falcons contract

Newly-minted Atlanta Falcons defensive tackle Dontari Poe has said he wants to get down to 330 pounds, and it sounds like he has some incentive to do just that.

According to Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk, the $2 million in incentives in Poe’s contract includes a $500,000 bonus if he consistently meets a certain weight goal. It’s not clear what that goal is, but Poe specifically mentioned 330 pounds, so that would be a good guess.

No matter what, Poe is guaranteed $7.5 million in 2017, but the half-million weight bonus is a nice incentive to get to where he wants to be.

Poe isn’t the first player to sign a contract this offseason with some financial incentives to stay at a certain weight. It’ll be interesting to see if he can make it work.
