Doug Pederson: Eagles did not receive suitable offer for Nick Foles

Nick Foles

Nick Foles is going to be staying with the Philadelphia Eagles because the team simply didn’t get a satisfactory offer, according to coach Doug Pederson.

Speaking at the NFL Annual Meeting on Saturday, Pederson said the Eagles listened, but were never particularly close to pulling the trigger on any deal.

“We did not,” Pederson said when asked there were any quality offers for Foles, via Edward Lewis of NFL.com. “Nothing too crazy. It had to be the right deal for us to do that. But there wasn’t anything coming down our way for Nick.”

Pederson said Foles is comfortable being the backup as long as Carson Wentz returns healthy.

“He’s totally fine being that mentor, sort of in that backup role, helping Carson along the way,” Pederson said. “That’s who Nick is. That’s who he is. And when called upon, he’s going to perform, but he understands this is Carson’s team and he’s going to support him every way he can.”

The price tag on Foles was reportedly exceptionally high, with the Eagles valuing him for depth and the possibility of complications in Wentz’s recovery. It sounds like, barring a major about face, he’ll be with Philadelphia next season.
