Doug Pederson: Ryan Mathews has ‘pretty significant’ knee injury

Backfield health is definitely not something that’s working in the Philadelphia Eagles’ favor heading into the stretch run of the season.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said on Saturday that running back Ryan Mathews has a ‘pretty significant’ knee injury that ‘could linger,’ per Zach Berman of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The 29-year-old Mathews, who has already been ruled out for the team’s Week 12 matchup against the Green Bay Packers, suffered the injury, believed to be a sprained right MCL, in a Week 11 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Fellow running back Darren Sproles is also dealing with a rib issue but will take the field to face the Packers on Monday, Pederson said.

Mathews has rushed for 427 yards and seven touchdowns in 10 games this season. Sproles and rookie back Wendell Smallwood will try to keep things Gucci for the 5-5 Eagles for however long the ex-Pro Bowler is sidelined for.
