Drew Brees not planning to retire even if he wins Super Bowl

Drew Brees

Drew Brees is not planning to retire even if he wins a Super Bowl this season.

Brees, 39, became the NFL’s career passing yards leader on Monday night. Given his age and accomplishments, some speculated he might retire if he were to win the Super Bowl this season. Brees says that is unlikely to be the case.

Brees joined his former New Orleans Saints teammate Reggie Bush for an interview on NFL Network and was asked whether he would ride off in the sunset if he were to win it all.

“No, I don’t think so,” Brees told Bush. “I’m not making promises either way. That’s not my intention. I really am just trying to stay in the moment and take it one game at a time, one year at a time. I do have aspirations to play longer than that.”

Brees said last offseason that he felt like he could play until he was 45. He seems to be at the top of his abilities, so there’s no reason to think he needs to walk away so soon.
