Drew Brees was reportedly willing to restructure contract to bring in Josh Norman
By all accounts, the New Orleans Saints finished as runners up to Washington in the short-lived Josh Norman sweepstakes. Now we have an indication of just how far New Orleans was willing to go to bring Norman into the fold.
According to ESPN’s Ed Werder, quarterback Drew Brees badly wanted Norman on the team, and even made clear that he’d be willing to restructure his contract to help make it possible.
I'm told @Saints QB @drewbrees personally wanted @J_No24 on team and was willing to modify contract to make it happen. Effort failed.

The Saints simply didn’t have the cap space that Washington could offer, and while it’s unclear how much they’d have offered, the reported $36.5 million guaranteed that Norman got probably helped seal the deal. Plus, Washington pretty aggressively courted him from the get-go. The Saints were seemingly outmaneuvered before they even had the chance to start maneuvering.
