Report: Eagles had hoped to trade Sam Bradford for second rounder after 2016
The Philadelphia Eagles reportedly got much more than they bargained for when they traded Sam Bradford to the Minnesota Vikings.
According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Bradford’s contract extension was signed with the intention of trading Bradford after the 2016 to clear the way for Carson Wentz. General manager Howie Roseman’s hope was that the Eagles would be able to fetch a second-round pick for the quarterback when trading him during the offseason.
Of course, Minnesota lost Teddy Bridgewater for the season and were quickly pushed into a situation where they elected to pay a steep price for a quarterback. That led to the Bradford trade, with the Eagles surpassing their own expectations and hopes by getting a first-round selection in return.
The rest is history. Bradford has moved into the starting role for Minnesota, but Wentz has become nothing short of a sensation who has been getting all sorts of plaudits. Roseman probably can’t believe how well this has gone for him and his team.
