Eagles could have interest in Josh Gordon if Browns trade him
If the Cleveland Browns end up deciding they have given Josh Gordon enough chances and would rather move on, there would likely be plenty of interest in the star wide receiver on the trade market. One NFL reporter believes the Philadelphia Eagles would make an offer.
In an appearance on 97.5 The Fanatic Tuesday, ESPN’s John Clayton said the Eagles are likely looking to upgrade their talent at the wide receiver position.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if we look down the landscape that a receiver pops up,” Clayton said, as transcribed by Matt Lombardo of NJ Advance Media. “Let’s say for example that the Cleveland Browns want to trade Josh Gordon. What teams might be interested? Philly might be one of those teams that would consider it. You’d be getting a great talent cheap and he could fit the outside spot.”
Gordon’s issues off the field are well known. He has been suspended twice for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, including missing all of the 2015 campaign for drinking alcohol while still on probation. Clayton doesn’t believe that would be enough to deter the Eagles, who have already signed a couple of players with troubled pasts this offseason.
At just 25 years old, Gordon has the potential to be the best wide receiver in the NFL. He caught 87 passes for 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns back in 2013 despite missing two games. But can he actually stay out of trouble this time? The Browns have to decide if they are willing to risk dealing with yet another distraction. Their first order of business should be to get Gordon to stop hanging out with football’s most notorious party boy.
