Earl Thomas says Cowboys coaches were talking to him about trade

Earl Thomas

Earl Thomas has been the subject of trade rumors that are only going to become more rampant as he openly shows his frustration with the Seattle Seahawks, and he says opposing coaches were even talking to him about it on Sunday.

Prior to kickoff of Seattle’s game against the Cowboys, there was a report that Dallas is still hoping to find a way to acquire Thomas. When asked about that report after the game, the All-Pro safety said some Cowboys coaches brought it up to him.

“People was coming up to me and saying a trade might happen,” Thomas admitted, per ESPN’s Brady Henderson. “Even pregame, a couple of Cowboys coaches — I don’t know if they were trying to play psychological games — but they was like, ‘You ready for the trade tomorrow?'”

Thomas said he had a conversation with Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett prior to the game, but it was nothing more than small talk.

Seahawks executives probably won’t be happy about opposing coaches talking trade, but Thomas has made it clear that he is not in the business of trying to please his bosses. He wants a new contract, and he said he is willing to sit out practice to “make sure my body is 100” even if he has something as minor as a headache.

Thomas appeared to troll the Cowboys with a gesture toward their sideline after making his second interception in Seattle’s win Sunday, so perhaps he was trying to send them a message that they should ramp up their efforts to trade for him.
