Ed Werder included among ESPN layoffs, which could affect 100 employees
ESPN has begun the process of laying off dozens of on-air personalities, reporters, writers and behind-the-scenes staff members, and one of the biggest names among the cuts is Ed Werder.
Werder, who has worked at ESPN as an NFL reporter for 17 years, revealed on Wednesday that he has been informed he is being laid off.
After 17 years reporting on #NFL, I've been informed that I'm being laid off by ESPN effective immediately. I have no plans to retire

ESPN president John Skipper confirmed that there are major changes coming within the network. Numerous reports over the past month have noted how the World Wide Leader is looking to slash millions of dollars from its current salary budget, and one report says up to 100 people could lose their jobs.
ESPN UPDATE: I have multiple sources at ESPN telling me they expect the number of layoffs to be closer to 100 people than 70. Awful news.

Werder, whose interesting relationship with one star NFL player last season may have made him seem irreplaceable, is not alone. ESPN’s decision to cut him will, however, be one of the most surprising for NFL fans.
