Eddie Lacy was back to 2015 playing weight before ankle injury

A lot was made of Eddie Lacy working to lose weight and get back into reasonable shape during the offseason, and the Green Bay Packers running back had supposedly lost around 20 pounds after working with P90X founder Tony Horton. But did Lacy put all the weight back on after the season began?

In the latest edition of their weekly NFL notebook, ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen cited team sources who say Lacy is back to his 2015 playing weight of between 255 and 265 pounds. The former Alabama star entered the NFL at 230 back in 2013 and was supposedly down to around 240 this past offseason.

Lacy is now dealing with an ankle injury that could keep him out for several weeks. Interestingly enough, he had been running very well this season. He is averaging 5.1 yards per carry after averaging just 4.1 last season. Lacy’s two best games were in Week 3 (103 yards on 17 carries vs. the Detroit Lions) and Week 5 (81 yards on 11 carries vs. the New York Giants), so it’s not as if he has put on an additional 20 pounds since then. Even if Lacy did put the weight back on, it didn’t appear to be negatively affecting him.

Either way, Lacy was so out of shape last year that his own head coach called him out publicly. Perhaps Horton helped him find a way to convert all that extra weight to muscle.
