Eli Manning met with new Giants GM to discuss future with team

Eli Manning

Eli Manning recently met with new New York Giants GM Dave Gettleman to discuss his future with the team.

The New York Post on Thursday first reported about the meeting, which Newsday says happened last Friday.

Gettleman told the Post’s Paul Schwartz that the meeting was “great” and everything “went well.”

Manning’s future with the Giants undoubtedly was a topic of conversation.

Manning, 37, is under contract with the Giants for the next two years at $22 million. The team has the No. 2 overall pick in the upcoming draft, so they could use that on a quarterback whom they hope will become their next franchise icon. If they do that, trading Manning could make sense.

“I think he can still play at a high level, but at the end of the day that’s gonna be a discussion between Dave, the new head coach and myself,” co-owner John Mara said when Gettleman was introduced as the general manager.

Gettleman was also very complimentary of Manning in late December.
