Emmitt Smith was surprised Cowboys cut Dez Bryant
The Dallas Cowboys’ decision to release Dez Bryant last week was expected by many, but it caught one franchise legend by surprise.
Emmitt Smith said on Tuesday that he was “a little surprised” by Bryant’s release, via the Dallas Morning News’ Jon Machota.
Emmitt Smith: “I am a little surprised [the Cowboys cut Dez]. It’s a clear indication of how much of a business this really is…Instead of looking back, it’s time to look forward & spend your energy on what you have to do next. That’s the most important thing for him right now.”

There was some thought that locker room issues were part of the reason for Bryant’s release. Jason Witten dismissed that talk and says there are no locker room issues.
Jason Witten on if Cowboys have a splintered locker room: “Absolutely not. My job and everybody else’s is to go play and try to lead the best we can by example. There’s nothing to that.” Travis Frederick said current group is closest locker room since Cowboys drafted him in 2013

One Cowboys receiver hinted at a potential reason for Bryant’s release, implying that being outspoken was not a good thing.
