Eric Decker on Ryan Fitzpatrick situation: ‘It’s like April Fools’

Ryan Fitzpatrick Jets

New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker sounds like he is getting tired of wondering if the team will re-sign quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.

In an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio Tuesday, Fitzpatrick said Jets players are waiting for Fitzpatrick to show up to the facility and say the ridiculously long negotiation process was just a prank.

“We’re waiting for that day. It’s like April Fool’s, wondering when he’s coming back,” Decker joked. “All I have to say is we have to move on without him right now. They’re stuck where they are. It’s a business decision. Where do they want to go with the money? Who’s gonna break?

“We have a job to do and that’s to field the best football team with who we have in the locker room right now. I have a lot of respect for Ryan Fitzpatrick but we don’t have a ton of time left. We’re all getting older.”

Fitzpatrick had a career year with the Jets last season, and he established great chemistry with Decker and fellow veteran receiver Brandon Marshall. It’s no surprise that neither of those guys (read Marshall’s thoughts here), want to start fresh with another quarterback when they were one win away from the postseason last year.

Decker recently questioned the Jets’ decision to draft Christian Hackenberg in the second round, so he clearly wants Fitzpatrick to return. At this point, it seems like there is no team that wants to pay the 33-year-old the money he is seeking.
