Eric Weddle signing with Baltimore Ravens

Eric Weddle Chargers

Free agent safety Eric Weddle is headed to the Baltimore Ravens.

Weddle confirmed the news himself via his Twitter.

“I couldn’t be more excited and pumped to be a part of a championship organization who wanted me from Day One,” Weddle said in a text message via Kevin Agee of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Weddle also reportedly drew interest from Pittsburgh, Dallas, and Oakland. The deal with Baltimore is for 4 years and $29 million, with $13 million of it guaranteed.

Weddle spent the first nine seasons of his career with the San Diego Chargers, making three Pro Bowls and twice being named first team All-Pro. He’s coming off a down year in San Diego where he didn’t collect an interception for the first time in his career, and his tally of 53 tackles was the second worst total of his career, besting only his rookie season of 2007. His parting with the Chargers was not an amicable one, so it’s no surprise to see that the Chargers and Weddle didn’t even consider a reunion.
