Falcons to hire Kyle Shanahan as offensive coordinator, plan to pair him with Dan Quinn

Kyle Shanahan Browns>

The Atlanta Falcons are hiring Kyle Shanahan as offensive coordinator, according to a report.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday that Atlanta is hiring Shanahan, who parted ways with the Cleveland Browns after the season. What is odd about this hiring is that the team is making the hire without having a head coach; head coaches typically like to pick integral members of his staff such as a coordinator.

As we shared earlier Sunday, the Falcons are likely to make Dan Quinn their new head coach after the Seahawks’ season ends following the Super Bowl. Schefter’s report corroborates that thinking as he says the Falcons plan to pair Shanahan with Quinn.

If Atlanta ends up with Quinn as head coach and Shanahan as OC, that will give them two of the younger, hotter coordinators in the game. Even though Cleveland’s offense did not seem to have great results during the season, I thought Shanny did a great job with his formations and schemes.
