Gary Kubiak: Broncos not close to naming starting quarterback
Don’t hold your breath if you’re awaiting a resolution to the Denver Broncos’ quarterback battle.
Coach Gary Kubiak said Saturday that he is not close to a decision on his starting quarterback in what is said to be a three-way battle between Mark Sanchez, Trevor Siemian, and rookie Paxton Lynch.
“I’m going one week at a time,” Kubiak said, via ESPN’s Jeff Legwold. “I will make a decision on what we’re going to next Thursday in Chicago and I haven’t come close to doing that yet.”
Kubiak said that the ultimate decision on his quarterback will be significantly influenced by how the quarterbacks perform during preseason.
Sanchez and Siemian appear to be the serious contenders, with Lynch still very raw and gaining an understanding of the offense and the league as a whole. With the team running a truly open competition, we may not know who wins until preseason is wrapping up.
