Geno Smith worked out with Odell Beckham, Antonio Brown

Geno Smith Jets

Geno Smith may wind up being the New York Jets’ starting quarterback in Week 1 of the 2016 season. That is a terrifying thought for fans, but they should be happy to hear that he put in some work with three Pro Bowl wide receivers during the offseason.

As Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald notes, Smith threw passes to Odell Beckham Jr., Antonio Brown and Jarvis Landry in Miami before organized team activities began. The group, which consisted of about eight or nine players, got together twice a week for what were described as “unconventional” drills.

“A lot of it feels like it’s been made up by [Brown], but it’s some good stuff in there,” Landry explained. “A lot of footwork drills, get some one-on-ones against longer corners like Xavier Rhodes and guys like that.”

Brown recently said that appearing on “Dancing With the Stars” during the offseason helped with his footwork, so you have to wonder if he threw anything from that experience in there.

No one really knows what to expect from Smith this season. Jets fans would undoubtedly prefer if the team ended its contract stalemate with Ryan Fitzpatrick and brought back the same offense as last year, but it’s starting to look like that might not happen. Those same fans haven’t exactly treated Smith like a king in recent weeks.

If he does earn the starting job, Smith will be throwing to two Pro Bowl-caliber receivers in Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker. Between those two and the crew he worked with during the offseason, he should have plenty of experience working with the best in the league.
