Report: Giants optimistic about signing Jason Pierre-Paul to incentive-laden deal

Jason Pierre-Paul

Jason Pierre-Paul is expected to meet with the New York Giants on Tuesday, and the defensive end could end up signing a contract that protects the team in the event that he is unable to play or perform at a reasonable level.

Dan Graziano of ESPN.com reports that there is “optimism” Pierre-Paul and the Giants could agree to a one-year deal that includes a significant amount of incentives. Pierre-Paul had a physical with the team on Monday, and it is unclear what the result was.

Graziano notes that the situation is expected to be resolved Tuesday one way or another and that it is not out of the realm of possibility that Pierre-Paul could be back on the field sometime between Week 10 and Week 12. The Giants have not formally rescinded the franchise tag offer to JPP, as far as we know.

The G-Men need help along their defensive front, but there is no way of knowing how effective Pierre-Paul will be after he lost the index finger and part of the thumb on his right hand. If you’ve seen the photos of Pierre-Paul’s bandaged hand, you know the fireworks mishap was nothing minor.
