Giants players reportedly growing ‘exceedingly frustrated’ with Eli Manning

Eli Manning

Odell Beckham Jr made headlines for the wrong reasons last week when he passed up an opportunity to endorse Eli Manning, but he may have been speaking for several other New York Giants players when he seemed less than thrilled with the team’s quarterback situation.

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Giants players have “grown exceedingly frustrated” with Manning this season and wonder if he is physically capable of getting the job done anymore. Part of that frustration stems from the team’s decision to stick with Manning rather than drafting a quarterback in recent years. Players have seen the spark other teams have gotten from young QBs like Deshaun Watson, Carson Wentz, Jared Goff and Patrick Mahomes, and they feel like they’re spinning their wheels in New York with Manning.

One source who spoke with Giants players about Manning told La Canfora “let’s just say a quarterback change wouldn’t be unwelcome.”

Giants coach Pat Shurmur said this week that he is not thinking about benching Manning, but he may have no choice if the current trends continue. Manning is 37 and has looked like he is incapable of getting the ball down the field. Beckham has drawn a lot of negative attention for not supporting Manning and for his sideline antics on Thursday night, but he is clearly not alone.
