Giants rookie QB Kyle Lauletta arrested over traffic incident

New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur had a difficult decision to make about whether or not he should bench Eli Manning following the team’s Week 9 bye, but rookie quarterback Kyle Lauletta may have resolved the dilemma for him on Tuesday.

According to a report from Ron Zeitlinger of The Jersey Journal, Lauletta was arrested on Tuesday morning while driving to the Giants’ facility. Sources told Zeitlinger that Lauletta failed to obey a police officer’s instructions and came close to striking the officer with his vehicle before being taken into custody.

The Giants said they are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering information.

Lauletta, a fourth-round pick this year, had a legitimate chance of starting in Week 10 against the San Francisco 49ers with how poorly Manning has played. It’s unclear if Tuesday’s arrest will have an impact on that.

Judging by Shurmur’s weak endorsement of Manning on Monday, it sounded like the coach was about ready to make a change. That may no longer be the case in the wake of the latest news.
