Giants reportedly have ‘serious interest’ in acquiring Kam Chancellor

Kam Chancellor Seahawks

The hardest hitter in the professional football galaxy continues to hold out for a new deal, and now the vultures are beginning to swoop in.

The New York Giants are looking into the possibility of acquiring the three-time Pro Bowler from the Seattle Seahawks via trade according to a report by Jordan Raanan of NJ.com on Saturday. He mentions that the Giants have expressed “serious interest” in Chancellor, and that the two teams have spoken about a potential deal. However, talks are said to be only at a preliminary stage right now, and ESPN’s Josina Anderson adds that Chancellor has not been informed about any interested trade partners.

Though he has three years remaining on his current contract, Chancellor, 27, wants a bigger slice of the pie and has missed all of training camp and the preseason so far with his holdout.

The Giants’ interest in Chancellor almost goes without saying as right now the team’s safety depth looks like something out of a 1980s horror film. The addition of Alabama rookie Landon Collins should help but the rest of the unit has been decimated by injuries, with safeties Bennett Jackson (torn ACL), Justin Currie (fractured ankle), Nat Berhe (torn calf muscle), Cooper Taylor (toe injury), and Mykkele Thompson (torn Achilles) all going down this summer.

It still seems fairly likely that the Seahawks will be able to work out an agreement with Chancellor sooner or later. But nevertheless, here’s looking forward to all of the overreactions that are sure to stem out of this news.
