Hue Jackson admits DeShone Kizer could be benched before end of season

DeShone Kizer

It’s clear that Hue Jackson and the Cleveland Browns badly want DeShone Kizer to be their answer at the quarterback position. It’s also clear that Jackson is having a difficult time ignoring reality.

After Kizer struggled in a blowout loss to the Baltimore Ravens, Jackson admitted that the 0-14 Browns will consider a quarterback change if they feel it gives them their best chance to win.

“Obviously, I’m going to watch the tape and make the best decision for our football team because we are still trying to win,” Jackson said in his postgame press conference, via the team’s official website. “We are not here just trying to get through the season. I don’t look at it like that and I’m not going to let our players look at it like that. We are trying to win. If the best decision is to move forward in a different direction, we will. At the same time, I want him to finish this if he can. We will see.”

Jackson has previously said that Kizer will be the starter for the rest of the season, but he simply isn’t improving. The Browns can afford to win a game and still get the No. 1 overall pick, which looks increasingly like another shot at a franchise quarterback. It may be that there’s a better option on the roster right now.
