Jalen Ramsey reveals why he would never play for Cowboys

Jerry Jones

Jalen Ramsey seems to be a perfect fit for what has become a ferocious Jaguars’ defense, but the star cornerback was surprised that he landed in Jacksonville on draft day two years ago. He had his sights set on another destination — one he has now crossed off his list of places he would ever want to play.

The Jaguars took Ramsey with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. While speaking with Mina Kimes for an ESPN the Magazine feature, Ramsey revealed that he was led to believe the Dallas Cowboys were going to take him at No. 4. Dallas instead chose Ezekiel Elliott, and Ramsey believes the coaching staff wanted him but Jerry Jones overruled them.

“I will never play for them, unless the Joneses leave,” Ramsey said.

While there’s still plenty of time for things to pan out, it’s hard to argue the Cowboys made the wrong choice in selecting Elliott. Still, Ramsey obviously felt he was misled and took it personally.

Even after Jerry is gone, the Jones family will likely be in charge of the Cowboys for many years to come. The Jaguars are almost certainly going to try to re-sign Ramsey when his rookie deal is up, anyway, but you have to wonder if he is burning any bridges with the way he consistently criticizes his opponents around the league.
