Jameis Winston reportedly dropping or off many NFL draft boards

Jameis Winston

Jameis Winston’s draft status has been significantly affected by his off-field issues, according to a report.

FOX Sports NFL reporter Jay Glazer reported during Sunday’s pregame show that every NFL GM with whom he spoke said they were either dropping Winston down their draft board or considering whether they even want him in their locker room.

Winston’s alleged 2012 sexual assault of a female FSU student has been under more scrutiny since FOX and The New York Times published stories the past two days detailing how Florida State and the local police worked to impede the investigation and other alleged crimes by Seminoles football players.

The league is growing so image-conscious that Glazer says the idea of penalizing teams with multiple offenders by stripping them of draft picks was broached at the recent owners meetings. Though that may not occur and seems like something difficult to set conditions for, it shows the growing concern the league has for such issues.

Winston, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, could consider leaving Florida State after the season to enter the NFL draft. Here is a recap of all his off-field troubles:

Accused of raping Florida State student in Dec. 2012
Cited in April for stealing crab legs at a grocery store
– Suspended for Clemson game because he yelled obscene in middle of campus
Stole soda and acted disrespectfully at a Burger King in July, 2013.
Investigated in 2012 for his involvement in a BB gun fight that resulted in broken windows at an apartment complex.
