James Harrison wanted to record NFL drug test, was told he could not

James-Harrison

James Harrison has made it clear in the past that he does not believe NFL drug testing is truly random. Earlier this offseason, he was tested the day after he announced he is returning for a 14th NFL season. An NFL official showed up at his door again on Tuesday, and Harrison once again seemed annoyed.

When he was tested back in February, Harrison recorded much of the process on Instagram. He wanted to do the same on Tuesday, but he was told that the league would not allow it.

“I was told that I can’t record it and if I did try to record it, they wouldn’t test me,” Harrison said in a video he posted on Instagram. “And if they wouldn’t test me they would count (the test) as positive.”

Harrison said he was going to contact the NFL Players Association’s drug testing attorney to figure out what could be done about him not being permitted to record the test. He also noted that the collector who allowed him to record the PED test last time ended up losing his job, so he chose not to record it this time around.

Here are the videos that Harrison shared:

Today the NFL came to my house for another "random ped test." I was gonna record it like last time but…..

I called the @NFLPA to find out what was going on. I guess maybe we'll find out more tomorrow. Lol. Goodnight

It’ll be interesting to see how this one turns out. While it’s an unusual request, there should be no reason to prohibit Harrison from recording the test if the NFL has nothing to hide throughout the process. We know at least one other NFL player who would likely side with the Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker.
