Jason Garrett to call offensive plays for Cowboys in 2019?

Jason Garrett

The Dallas Cowboys made the decision to fire offensive coordinator Scott Linehan this week, and the plan going forward could be for Jason Garrett to take on an even bigger role on that side of the ball.

The Cowboys are expected to hire former NFL quarterback Jon Kitna as their quarterbacks coach, and current QB coach Kellen Moore looks like a top candidate to become the team’s offensive coordinator. However, ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reports that it could be Garrett who ends up calling offensive plays in 2019.

Garrett used to call plays for the Cowboys several years ago, and there was talk early this season about him taking that responsibility back when Dallas was struggling. We know how supportive Jerry Jones has been of Garrett through the years (at least publicly), so it seems unlikely that he would stand in the way if that’s the plan Garrett wants to go with heading into next season.

Cowboys fans will likely be a bit skeptical about Garrett calling plays, especially with the way his conservative approach cost the team in certain spots this season.
