Jason Pierre-Paul set to return to Giants, take physical

Jason Pierre-Paul

New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul appears set to end his holdout.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Pierre-Paul is scheduled to fly to New Jersey on Monday to return to the team for his yearly physical. The physical is extremely important, as many believe Pierre-Paul has been waiting until he can pass it to sign his $14.8 million franchise tender.

As most of you know, Pierre-Paul lost a finger in a fireworks accident over the 4th of July weekend. Prior to that, he was hoping to work out a long-term extension with the Giants. When it became clear that he was not going to get it, Pierre-Paul decided to stay away from the team until he could pass a physical to prevent the Giants from placing him on the non-football injury list and not having to pay him for the first six weeks of the season.

The Giants are not expected to have a strong defense this season, so they need all the help they can get. As long as JPP proves he will be the same player with nine fingers, they’re not going to try to find a way to place him on NFI. They need a pass-rusher, and the 26-year-old was one of the best in the business prior to his injury.

Pierre-Paul indicated a few weeks ago that he is getting ready to end his holdout when he sent this funny tweet. It will be interesting to see if his level of play remains the same in the wake of the nasty injury.
