Jay Cutler to have MRI on groin injury; Bears to sign Jordan Palmer

Jay Cutler groin

The Chicago Bears may be preparing to be without Jay Cutler for a while.

Cutler left Sunday’s 45-41 loss at the Washington Redskins early in the second quarter with a groin injury and was replaced by backup quarterback Josh McCown. Bears coach Marc Trestman said after the game that Cutler will have an MRI on his groin Monday. NFL Network reporter Mike Silver said two sources told him that Cutler’s injury could be bad.

In response to Cutler’s injury, the Bears are preparing to bring back quarterback Jordan Palmer. The team signed Palmer in mid-August during training camp and cut him a few weeks later. ESPN’s Adam Schefter and Field Yates reported that Palmer will be re-signed. The Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs confirmed that Palmer will be with the team on Monday.

Palmer, a former 6th-round pick out of UTEP, has spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals and Jacksonville Jaguars organizations.

The Bears are entering a bye week, so if Palmer is coming in on Monday it’s fair to speculate the team expects to be without Cutler for some time.
