Jay Cutler wants to continue playing

Jay Cutler

There may not be much of a market for Jay Cutler’s services this offseason, but the veteran quarterback wants to remind everyone that he wants to continue playing football in 2017.

Cutler’s agent, Bus Cook, told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Tuesday that Cutler has no intension of retiring.

“Jay wants to play football,” Cook said. “He never has mentioned retirement to me. Jay Cutler, as far as I know, is ready to play and wants to play, and his skill set is as good as any quarterback in the league.”

The biggest question is whether or not Cutler would be willing to accept a backup role, and that seems unlikely. Unfortunately for Cutler, there are very few teams in the NFL looking for a 34-year-old starting quarterback who appeared in just five games last season due to injury. Cutler has made a ton of money in his career, so many believe he would rather retire than play for a mediocre team at a low salary.

Cutler is reportedly willing to take less than starter money for one team that is in need of a starting quarterback, but there has been no indication the interest is mutual. Even if he wants to play in 2017, Cutler simply may not be able to find work.
