Jay Glazer defends Chip Kelly, says he’s ‘just a dude’

Eagles coach Chip Kelly has been the subject of a lot of criticism, including from former players, about his system and his perceived elitism this season. Fox NFL insider Jay Glazer, however, is speaking up on his behalf.

Glazer made an appearance on Colin Cowherd’s radio show on Friday and spoke about what Kelly is really like: a normal, hardworking guy who respects his players.

“He’s just a dude from New Hampshire who drinks Coronas,” Glazer told Cowherd according to 247 Sports. “I’m dead serious. He’s not what people think he is. He is not this elitist. He’s not a guy who is trying to beat his players down.”

Glazer also defended Kelly from charges that he’s dictatorial in implementing his system, and seemed to voice his belief that it will work in time.

“Chip doesn’t do that,” Glazer continued. “Chip treats his guys with respect. Chip, his whole thing is about – he’s not trying to embarrass anybody, beat you down. He’s trying to get the system and the system is smart. His entire system is predicated on pace. Pace beats talent every day of the week when you are exhausted.”

This sounds like a far cry from allegations recently that Kelly was on the verge of losing his locker room. What does seem clear is that he’s not going to USC, so time will tell if his system really takes hold in Philadelphia.
