Jeff Reed explains altercation with fan at Hall of Fame Game

Jeff-Reed

Former Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Jeff Reed attended the Hall of Fame Game in Canton on Sunday night to support his former team in its scrimmage against the Minnesota Vikings. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, Reed was forced to leave early.

On Monday morning, photos and posts began circulating on social media that sparked rumors about Reed being kicked out of the game after an altercation with a fan.

Deadspin rounded up several tweets from fans who claim to have witnessed Reed being kicked out of the game, but the 36-year-old told a much different story on his Facebook page. Reed says a Steelers fan was harassing and threatening him so he sought out the local authorities.

Reed, who was part of two Super Bowl championship teams, played with the Steelers from 2002 through 2012. He last played in the NFL with the San Francisco 49ers in 2010. He is certainly no stranger to criticism, as he heard plenty of it when he made this excuse after missing a crucial kick in 2010.

There’s no way of knowing exactly what happened, but it’s not hard to believe that someone antagonized Reed.
