Jeremy Maclin reportedly will sign with Chiefs

Jeremy MaclinJeremy Maclin reportedly will sign with the Kansas City Chiefs when the open free agency period begins on Tuesday.

Terms for a deal are unknown at the time, but ESPN’s Chris Mortensen expects the team to cut Dwayne Bowe to make up the room for the team to sign Maclin.

Maclin had a breakout season last year going for a career-best 85 catches and 1,318 yards, while tying a career-high with 10 touchdowns.

As good as Maclin is, we cannot think of a worse spot for him. Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith throws mostly short-to-intermediate passes rather than deep balls, and he loves his tight ends. Even going back to his days in San Francisco, he always threw to Vernon Davis and hardly targeted Michael Crabtree. He didn’t throw his first touchdown pass to a wide receiver until Week 14 last season.

But, hey, good luck to Maclin in his new home!
