Jerry Jones praises Roc Nation for role in getting Dez Bryant deal done

Dez Bryant

Prior to Wednesday’s NFL franchise tender deadline, the Cowboys and Dez Bryant agreed to a deal to keep the Pro Bowl wide receiver in Dallas for the foreseeable future. After a public dispute that had been ongoing for weeks, Bryant signed a contract that will pay him $70 million over five years, with $45 million guaranteed.

Bryant is represented by Roc Nation and, it appears, Jerry Jones is quite impressed with the role they played in helping to get a deal between the two sides wrapped up.

“I must emphasize, Roc Nation, Jay-Z, the key people in Roc Nation did a marvelous job of convincing us that managing Dez and managing him with his off the field, with his marketing opportunities, with his finances, that they’re a group that will really make a contribution to Dez,” Jerry Jones said via the Dallas Morning News. He added, “They were very significant in us doing this deal with Dez.”

“They sold me on their commitment to have an associate in Dez that makes them proud, that makes Dez proud to be associated with them, and that makes Roc Nation proud,” Jones also said.

Score another one for Roc Nation, whose clients have secured some extremely lucrative contracts. In 2013, Robinson Cano agreed to $240 million over 10 years with the Mariners. Earlier this year, Ndamukong Suh became the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history when he signed with the Dolphins for six years and $114 million ($60 million guaranteed).

Next summer, Kevin Durant will hit the NBA’s free agent market and have everyone lining up at his door. With the NBA’s salary cap set to increase thanks to an influx of money from a new TV deal, another big payday for a Roc Nation client is on the horizon.
