Jerry Jones ‘very skeptical’ of latest report Randy Gregory failed drug test

Randy Gregory

The NFL career of Dallas Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory appears to be in serious jeopardy, but he has yet to lose the support of his boss.

Over the weekend, TMZ reported that Gregory recently failed yet another drug test, which was supposedly the seventh time he tested positive since declaring for the NFL Draft back in 2015. Gregory is already suspended for the entire 2017 season, yet Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is not convinced the 24-year-old is still using drugs.

“I would be very skeptical,” Jones said when asked about the TMZ report, per Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Gregory will not be eligible to apply for reinstatement until December. But in the meantime, Jones refuses to believe he could have failed another drug test with all the “support” he is receiving from the Cowboys organization.

“That’s just not right,” Jones added. “He is getting a lot of support. He is not void in any way. He’s got in my mind a better method of support than he had most of last year. I’m very comfortable with his support and we are trying to stay in communication with him.”

While the TMZ report has not yet been confirmed, it’s unclear why Jones would be so adamant about giving Gregory the benefit of the doubt. The former Nebraska star has undeniable talent and would give the Cowboys’ defense a huge boost, but his history with drug use is long and disturbing. There’s no reason to assume Gregory will ever have a successful NFL career.
