Jets being investigated for tampering with Darrelle Revis

Darrelle Revis

The NFL is said to be annoyed with teams for reaching deals with so many players prior to the official start of free agency on Tuesday, and they are specifically investigating the New York Jets for the signing of Darrelle Revis, according to a report.

Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole said on “Inside Buzz” Friday that the league is looking at the Jets for potentially tampering with Revis.

“The NFL sent investigators to the Jets’ offices to specifically look at whether the Jets had prior contact with Darrelle Revis and his representatives,” Cole reported. “The NFL has continued its investigation to make sure there was no tampering before the open period.”

If the Jets indeed are being investigated for tampering with Revis, it wouldn’t be the first time. Owner Woody Johnson tampered with Revis back in December, and he was investigated last year for tampering with DeSean Jackson, who ultimately ended up with the Redskins.

What is the NFL really going to do about this? Revis was in negotiations with the Jets and Patriots and it was widely known he was choosing between the two teams. The Pats had their opportunity to bring him back and chose not to pay what the Jets did. I’m not sure what tampering has to do with that. It’s not like he opted out of his contract because he knew more money was out there; the Patriots had the first crack at him.
