Report: Jets not willing to pay Ryan Fitzpatrick $12 million for one season
The chances of Ryan Fitzpatrick returning to the New York Jets on a one-year deal are very slim.
A report on Wednesday indicated that Fitzpatrick would be willing to sign a one-year contract at around $12 million for 2016. The Jets have offered him a three-year deal, which would spread the money out and keep the salary cap hits much lower. According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Jets have no interest in a short-term deal.
Jets are not interested in giving Ryan Fitzpatrick a 1-year, $12 million deal, per sources. Will not be happening.

This makes sense, as the Jets currently have just over $3 million in salary cap space available for 2016. With the proposed three-year deal, Fitzpatrick’s salary would be about $6 million per year and he would get some cash up front. Fitzpatrick feels that is a low-ball offer and is not willing to be paid like a backup after he had a career year and threw 31 touchdown passes in 2015.
How testy have negotiations gotten between Fitzpatrick and the team? A report we shared earlier in the week should give you a decent idea. The stalemate could last a while longer.
