Jim Caldwell fired by Lions

A number of NFL head coaches are expected to lose their jobs this week, and Jim Caldwell was one of the first to go on Monday.

The Detroit Lions have announced that Caldwell will not be returning to coach the team in 2018.

The Lions are expected to request interviews with a number of coordinators from around the league, most notably New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and defensive coordinator Matt Patricia. Reports have indicated that Patricia could be the early favorite to land the job.

Caldwell capped off his coaching career in Detroit by leading the team to a blowout win over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. He finishes with a record of 36-28 in four seasons, having led the Lions to the playoffs twice. They lost in the wild card round both times.
