Jim Gray zings Tom Brady for not having response to Deflategate

Tom Brady upsetTom Brady said a whole lot of nothing Thursday when faced with questions about the Wells Report for the first time, leaving an opening for interviewer Jim Gray to zing him.

Brady appeared at Salem State University for a speaking engagement that was booked long ago. He was met by interviewer Jim Gray, who interviews Brady weekly for Westwood One during the NFL regular season, and was immediately pressed about his reaction to the Wells Report. The report concluded that Brady more likely than not knew the footballs were being deflated.

“I don’t really have any reaction,” Brady said. “Our owner commented on it Wednesday. It’s only been 30 hours so I haven’t had time to fully digest it, but when I do I’ll be sure to let you know about it. And everybody else.”

Gray then quipped, “are you that slow of a reader?” eliciting laughs from Brady and the crowd.

Brady was cautious about what he said and didn’t say.

“There’s still a process that’s going forth right now, and I’m involved in that process. Whenever it happens, it happens, and I’ll certainly want to be very comfortable in how I feel about the statements that I make,” Brady said of when he’ll address the report.

“Life is about ups and downs and certainly I accept my role and responsibility as a public figure and I think a lot of it you take the good with the bad. Dealing with different adversities in life, you just try to do the best you can do.”

The biggest cheers came when Brady was asked whether the scandal has detracted from his enjoyment of winning the Super Bowl. Brady also said the championship “absolutely not” should be considered tainted. Just don’t tell that to Ray Lewis, who said it deserves an asterisk.
