John Harbaugh takes responsibility for ‘worst play call’ after interception

John Harbaugh

Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh took responsibility for a play call that nearly cost his team a win against Philadelphia on Sunday.

With the ball at the Philadelphia 11, seven minutes to go, and a ten point lead, Ravens offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg had Joe Flacco try to pass for a touchdown instead of running some clock and extending the lead. The pass was intercepted, setting up a Philadelphia comeback that very nearly succeeded.

Though he didn’t call the play, Harbaugh took responsibility for the fact that the team ran it.

“All-time worst call ever. I’ll take responsibility for it,” Harbaugh said, via Kevin Patra of NFL Media. “I should have vetoed it right away … I like an aggressive mindset, but that was way too aggressive. It’s the worst play call we’ve had, and it’s my fault. It should have never happened. We should have never been in that situation as a result of that.”

How do you feel when you hear that if you’re Mornhinweg? Probably not great. Then again, with the whispers around Harbaugh, the coach may be feeling a bit of pressure, and not terribly happy with said calls potentially jeopardizing his future.
