John Mara wants a second MetLife Stadium Super Bowl

MetLife Stadium

Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium, despite being the third-coldest Super Bowl in NFL history, went off without a hitch.

The temperature for a February evening in the northeast was a relatively mild 49 degrees, there was no rain, no snow and limited wind. All in all, things went surprisingly well for the league despite significant concern leading up to kickoff.

After the Seattle Seahawks dominated the Denver Broncos, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell stated he was open to a MetLife Stadium return somewhere down the line.

New York Giants co-owner John Mara now feels that time is nearing

During a recent trip to the Vatican for a conference on faith and sports, Mara told ESPN he would soon be getting together with New York Jets owner Woody Johnson to discuss another East Rutherford, New Jersey Super Bowl in either 2022 or 2023.

Quietly last week, at a sports and faith summit at The Vatican, Giants co-owner John Mara said he is working on bringing another Super Bowl to MetLife Stadium, and hoping to do it in 2022 or 2023. He plans to meet with Jets officials soon to combine their efforts and increase their chances of bringing the Super Bowl back to the New York metropolitan area.

Although not guaranteed, Mara and Johnson, should they desire a return of the big game, stand a good chance at hosting. New York/New Jersey represents the media capital of the country and with only positive experiences to draw on, any committee would be hard-pressed to turn them down.

Currently, the league has the host cities for the next five Super Bowls set in stone. They include Houston (2017), Minnesota (2018), Atlanta (2019), South Florida (2020) and Los Angeles (2021).
