John McCain congratulates Panthers on Senate floor (Video)
When the Panthers and Cardinals met in the NFC Championship Game last month, there was more on the line than a trip to Super Bowl 50. Bragging rights on the Senate floor were at stake. The Panthers coming away victorious meant Arizona’s John McCain was on the losing end of a friendly wager.
McCain and North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis placed a bet on who would win between Arizona and Carolina. McCain was, of course, rooting for the Cardinals while Tillis supported his home state Panthers. Since the Panthers won, McCain had to congratulate the Panthers on advancing to the Super Bowl and wish them luck against the Broncos, on the Senate floor, which he did.
In addition to congratulating the Panthers, McCain also gave his team some love by mentioning all seven members of the team who represented the Cardinals in the Pro Bowl.
McCain also put Tillis on notice that it would be the North Carolina Senator who would be delivering a similar speech this time next year. “You’d be wise to get a head start and purchase a Cardinals red and white tie now, because you’ll be standing in my shoes this time next year. I guarantee it,” McCain said.
Even though it visibly pained McCain, he made it through and his effort was appreciated by Tillis.
Thank you, @SenJohnMcCain, for being a good sport and class act. ??

Hopefully, McCain doesn’t have to do another speech next year. I’m not sure he’d make it through another one.
