Johnny Manziel calls for Browns to retain coaching staff, players

Johnny Manziel

Johnny Manziel has spoken in favor of his coaching staff and teammates, saying that he hopes the Cleveland Browns retain the staff and as much of the roster as possible.

Manziel stressed the importance of continuity in his postgame remarks after Cleveland’s loss on Sunday.

“I want these guys to be here next year,” Manziel said, via Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot. “I want to have these receivers and the people that we have on this roster on the staff, so we can go through the spring and not have to learn what this call is and this play and be able to go through a spring and have some of the continuity. So it definitely would be a luxury for sure.”

Manziel may not get his wish. Mike Pettine’s job is reportedly under threat, and there’s no guarantee that Manziel himself will be a Brown next season. 3-11 teams rarely stand pat, and owner Jimmy Haslam won’t take a year like that sitting down.
