Johnny Manziel officially gets starting job back

Johnny Manziel

Cleveland Browns head coach Mike Pettine announced on Tuesday that Johnny Manziel will start in Week 14 against the San Francisco 49ers.

“Johnny will be our starting quarterback on Sunday,” Pettine said in a statement. “He’s been solid in the building over the last couple of weeks and we are hopeful he takes this opportunity to continue to build on the progress he’s made on the field throughout the season. The goal for every game is to go out and win, and Johnny needs to show that he can put us in position to do so during these last four weeks of the season.”

This is a move that almost everyone saw coming, especially after the Browns were manhandled in a 37-3 loss against the Cincinnati Bengals last week. If the organization still believes Manziel can be its quarterback of the future, this will be a good four-game tryout for the 22-year-old.

Some have speculated that the Browns will trade or release Manziel this offseason, but the team obviously doesn’t want that to happen. The ideal scenario would be for Cleveland’s former first-round draft pick to prove he can be an NFL starter and stop screwing up off the field. Browns fans are tired of their team not having a quarterback.
