Report: Johnny Manziel not expected to face NFL discipline

Johnny Manziel is not expected to face discipline from the NFL for the incident involving him and his girlfriend earlier this month.

Manziel met with league officials this week, and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that no disciplinary action will be taken against the Cleveland Browns quarterback.

Manziel was pulled over by police on Oct. 12 after a witness allegedly saw him speeding in his white Nissan and later arguing with his girlfriend, Colleen Crowley, on the side of the road. Manziel admitted that he had been drinking earlier in the day, but police did not suspect he was intoxicated. The NFL’s reported decision to not take disciplinary action indicates that Manziel is not the league’s drug program, despite spending time at an alcohol rehab facility during the offseason.

There have been rumblings that the Browns wish Manziel would break up with Crowley, who seemed like she may have been intoxicated in the footage that was released from the incident. One of Manziel’s teammates also happened to be in the area when the 22-year-old was being questioned, and he was critical of Crowley when speaking to an officer.

With Josh McCown listed as questionable due to a shoulder injury, Manziel could end up starting against the Arizona Cardinals this weekend.
