Johnny Manziel offered opportunity by Arena Football League

After being released by the Browns in March, it’s looking more and more likely Johnny Manziel will not be playing in the NFL anytime soon. However, if the 23-year-old is interested in getting back on the football field, he has been extended an opportunity.

The Arena Football League has reached out to Manziel with an avenue to show he is ready to continue with his professional career.

“We could provide a strong platform for him to demonstrate that he is back,” AFL commissioner Scott Butera told TMZ. “We would also work with him and provide him whatever help he needed to live a healthy life.”

This Arena League season began in April and has just four weeks remaining, with the final game of the regular season being played on August 1. While it seems like a long shot for Manziel to see any action this season, it may take a stint in the AFL or Canada before a return to the NFL, if Manziel makes it back at all.

Manziel was recently handed a four-game suspension by the NFL for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. On a positive note, he has pledged to begin a life of sobriety beginning July 1.
